115 Arrested Including Women With Children

(we could not get this up sooner. The regime sabotages internet connections whenever there is a protest – they are the single regulating body)

The ZCTU demonstration against poverty was broken up by the police yesterday afternoon. About 115 demonstrators have been arrested. They are still detained at Harare Central Police Station and no charges have been brought against them. Muchadehama the lawyer was still there late yesterday.

Some of those arrested are:
Lovemore Matombo - ZCTU President
Wellington Chibhebhe - ZCTU Secretary General
Netsai Dzinoreva – NOC Member Zimbabwe Social Forum
John Bomba – National Co-ordinator ISO
Aaron Dhliwayo – Harare Branch Co-Ordinator ISO
Munyaradzi Gwisai – National Co-Ordinator ISO
Canwell Muchadya - President ZGAWU (Printing Union)
Regis Mututu - Chairperson Zimbabwe Social Forum
Rita Nyamupinga - NOC member Zimbabwe Social Forum.

More than 115 activists including the HIV/AIDS activitists, the disabled and women with children. About 6 women with children on their back, and the disabled have been move from one of the conjested cells into the other one but they are still detaining them. So far no charges have been brought against them and it is likely that they will spend the night in the congested cells. Your solidarity is needed to put pressure for them to be brought to court tommorrow. Phone Harare Central Police Station demanding the immediate release of the arrested. See the phone and fax details in the article immediately below this one.

* We have just learned (10.00 last night) that some were moved to either Dema or Marondera police stations. We mwill make a follow up and post the details as soon as we have them *
